Our brain is like a sponge, absorbing all the information that it receives but leaving the editing out of the unwanted parts of the information to us to do! As a result, our mind is always cluttered with too much information and we do not know what to do with it. Thus, as our minds are full with so much information, it becomes even harder if we want to recall a particular type of information at an instant. However, there are certain steps we can take to improve our mental ability.

Stimulation of the mind

For our minds to be functioning properly, mental stimulation is of utmost importance as it helps our brain accept new skills and activities. one of the ways of stimulating the mind is through mind games such as chess, bridge or even do math problems and read! By playing these games, it helps to keep our minds active and keeps the mental pathways clear. In fact, by playing such games to improve memory, people realize connections between the notions that must be recalled in the future. Keeping the mind active is essential to improving our memory and our brain is just like a muscle, which only gets stronger the more we use it.

Food

The clarity of the mind is also dependent on our diet, and certainly there are some kinds of food that helps improve our memory also. Fish oil is one of those foods that can help improve your memory and your mental health. Omega-3 fats, which are commonly found in fish oil, are needed by our brain to function well. Furthermore, fish oil has the ability to prevent the start of Alzheimer’s disease and has long been attributed to the improvement of our memory and clearer thinking! Also, not only does fish oil improve our mental capabilities, it can also significantly improve the health of our heart too.

Vitamins

Vitamin B12, or also known as cobalamin can actually cause nervous breakdowns in our body system if our body has lack of it. However, when ingested, it can help improve one’s memory and also prevent the start of terrible diseases such a dementia.

Surely, there are still many other methods to improve a person’s mental function; however the few mentioned above are the more common alternatives. Nonetheless, the most important thing to take note of is to keep your mind healthy and take actions to strengthen it, if you feel it may be vulnerable to diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
